Aircraft LightsAircraft lights help pilots see other aircraft at night, and identify which direction they are flying. Let's look at some examples of how the lights help identify aircraft position. From behind the white tail white is visible and the wing lights (red on the left, and green on the right), the aircraft is flying away from us.
In this picture the green light (right wing) is on the left, and the red (left wing) is on the right, the aircraft is flying towards us.
In this picture the red light on the left wing is visible and the white tail light, the aircraft is flying from the right to the left.
In this picture the green light on the right wing is visible and the white tail light, the aircraft is flying from the left to the right.
