Airline Therapy
It doesn't take long sitting with someone all day long, day after day, to turn into a good listener - you have to !
Whether you like it or not, you're going to hear all the details of love affairs, marital problems, and just about everything else.
When you've several hours left of a flight, the realization sets in that there's no getting out of hearing everything the other person wants to share, no matter how graphic.
Sometimes it's good to have someone to share things with, even if it is someone who can't go anywhere, even if they wanted.
However, the crew are like a family, and it's comforting to be able to chat openly about anything. The adage "What happens in the flightdeck, stays in the flightdeck" is often a very good thing.
It's surprising how much goes on in people's lives, you learn alot.
People will tell you details that you'd never dream of sharing with people you'd never met before, and you learn how to listen, and respond.
But when you leave the airplane, and the crew say goodbye, it's all forgotten.
