What is online flying?
Using the internet and multi-player capabilities of flight simulator, you can fly your flight simulator aircraft in the same simulated airspace as other users, you'll see them, they'll see you.
There's also ATC software to allow people to act as air traffic controllers and they'll give you vectors and separation on your flight, most controllers use voice, and you can 'transmit' using your microphone when pressing a key to speak to them.
How do you know where other people are flying?
There is a wonderful program called "Whazzup" which shows you on a world map where everyone else is, this allows you to fly from an airport you know has ATC and other people.
