A2A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress
Air to Air Simulations (www.a2asimulations.com) have created an fantastic and detailed simulation of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, for Microsoft FSX.
This add-on has absolute realism, with accurate airplane performance in all stages of flight, which can be compared to the actual airplane flight manual.
The Wings of POWER II: 17 includes the first-time ever, 3D landing lights, that actually respond to air quality conditions. accurate fuel consumption rates
33 page manual.
Airplane Background
The B-17 Flying Fortress is a four engined strategic bomber, that first flew in 1935. It was produced between 1936-1945 and 12,731 were made.
The airplane is capable of a maximum speed of 249 knots (cruise 158 knots), has a service ceiling of 35,600 ft., with a range of 1,738 nautical miles.
Flight Test
For the flight test we departed from Los Angeles International airport (KLAX).

Even in a flight simulation, you take pride flying a B-17 Flying Fortress !

The graphics are fantastic, this airplane looks like it's flown many missions, just look at the flaps behind the engines !
Takeoff is interesting, this is one big tail dragger.
Pushing forward, the tail lifts as our airspeed increases as we accelerate down the runway, and suddenly we can see clearly over the nose.

Climbing away from the airport you can hear the roar of these magnificent engines.

The climb performance is actually very good.

The forward view can be quite restrictive at times, although there's a large window above too.

There's not many aircraft of this size where the pilot has such a view of the engines, but what a view !

We couldn't resist flying by the Hollywood sign, what a photo opportunity !
Summary
We highly recommend this add-on, head on over to Air to Air Simulations (www.a2asimulations.com) and try it yourself today !
