Flight Simulator Reviews

WhazzUp

WhazzUp from Project Majenta, is a great program for flight sim users who fly online using the multi-player function of flight simulators.

When you plan to fly online, it's useful to know where other people are flying, and where is being controlled, otherwise you could be on your own !

Whazzup

WhazzUp visually displays (worldwide) online pilots and virtually controlled airspace, making it easy to see where you'll have other traffic, and ATC, adding the realism factor. The display can be filtered by network and other options.

WhazzUp is fun, but more than that, it's like looking at a radar screen showing where aircraft are, and their route of flight.

Whazzup

You can zoom in much further, here's a view of the virtual European traffic, at this zoom there's so many people flying online, the call signs are a blur of yellow.

Whazzup

Here's an even closer view of the UK and Ireland, the colored areas have virtual air traffic control, so if you'd like to text, or talk to someone who's controlling an area, plan a flight near one of those areas.

Whazzup

You can zoom so close in that you can make out runways, and local aircraft.

Putting the mouse over an airport reveals the pilots names using that airport.

WhazzUp comes in two versions, the free version, and one available for purchase, which offers the following additional features;

  • 3D Display
  • Digital Elevation Map Display (and extraction) *
  • Weather Data Display
  • FlightPlan display (FS as well as of the PM FMC)
  • Can be run via WideFS on a Network
  • Weather Data Generation (with pmWeather)
  • Worldwide Navaid Database Display (VOR, NDB, Airports, Runways and Fixes) 90.000+ entrie

Flying online is a lot of fun and this program is invaluable in helping select areas to fly in, inorder to have virtual air traffic control, and the opportunity to therefore simulate real life further with simulated ATC.

Whazzup also visually shows how popular online flying is, and you can watch your own progress on the display, by switching to this program during the flight.

It's a great program, and interesting to use, whether for planning or just for interest.
