ATC Simulator 2
Reviewed: August 18, 2008
Aerostudios ATC Simulator 2 is an authentic computer simulation of an ARTS-IIIa radar terminal used by FAA air traffic control at Terminal Radar Approach Control (Tracon) facilities around the USA.
The program's goals are to allow for the "safe and expeditious" flow of air traffic, and you can assume the role as an approach or departure controller.
The program can track your career advancement, and grades performance based on various real parameters.
Various options can be selected after starting the program, including selection of an area to control from the numerous areas included, infact there are 120 Tracon facility areas covering the continental United States.

The simulated ART5-IIIa radar terminal (above) is replicated in exacting detail, and shows the area you selected during start up.
Within seconds aircraft start arriving into your area and communicate with you.
What happens next is up to you !
You can control aircraft either by typing in commands, or by speaking using the included speak recognition software.

Each aircraft has a data block shown on the radar screen, showing their call sign, destination, and aircraft type.
Also shown (intermittently) are the aircrafts altitude and speed.
The program has random flight generation and flight strip printing if preferred.

The detail of the radar even goes as far as having an ON / OFF switch !

Other controls on the terminal allow you to change the data shown, including the length of the 'history trail', which shows the direction the airplanes just traveled.
This trail is useful in visualizing where the airplane is going, but changing the length keeps other data visible.
The program also has multiplayer connectivity to Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 thru 2004.
